The install manifest marks each game data file "category": "game_data":
a platform entry only game data profile entries read, or a core file its
profile declares game data. Firmware carries no category. Every manifest
says "categorized": true so the installer can refuse an older list.
generate_pack.py --no-game-data cuts those files from the platform list
and the core profiles before the build, names each one with the cores that
read it as game data, and tags the pack _NoGameData through _narrowings.
verify.py and the pack check take the same cut, so --verify-packs and the
report describe the pack the builder wrote. Modes without a platform
(--emulator, --system alone, --from-md5) and --all-variants refuse it.
A platform list can name a game's data files or a file no core it runs opens. Verify gives each missing entry a category read from the profiles of the platform's cores: firmware, game data or unread. Only firmware gaps carry a severity and fail --strict; the others are counted on their own line, and the pack check no longer counts them as pack errors. Missing firmware stays a conformance error.
The pack check failed a pack for a declared file nothing in the collection resolves to, though the builder cannot ship it and verify already reports it missing. Such destinations are now counted as not in the collection; a held file absent from the pack stays an error.
After --all-variants, --verify-packs printed "hashes checked during the
build" for the platform-only, truth and required-only packs and compared
none of them, so one missing a file its narrowed list requires passed.
Each pack is now held to the platform list narrowed the way it was built:
source and required_only, read from its name, reach the baseline, the
region grouping and the replay of the core extras.
A core extra resolved by name shipped on existence platforms even when
the core's own size check turns the copy away. The RetroPie pack carried
the 128 KB Apple IIGS ROM as Basilisk II's ROM (min 512 KB). The builder,
the manifest and verify now read validation.core_size_refusal, which
accepts a copy any version of the same profile slot takes.
The pack integrity check rebuilt the core extras with no taken paths and
tested presence alone, so it credited core files at paths the platform's
own file holds and printed a core count the builder contradicted. It now
replays the builder's placement through packextras.hidden_extras and
compares each placed member with the copy the builder resolves.
No platform YAML holds an md5 shorter than 32 characters: the Batocera scraper completes one when a single collection md5 starts with it. The pages said some entries carry 29 characters and that scrapers store them as-is.
The integrity step compared a member's md5 by hand and ignored hash_rule, so under RomM's rule (size, then any of md5, sha1 and crc32) it would refuse a revision the builder rightly shipped on its sha1. The rule now lives in digest_verdict, which the path check and the pack member check both call. The member's archive digest is computed without the path cache, whose key a buffer's reused address made collide.
RomM's verify_file_hashes compares the size, then md5, sha1 or crc. We
compared md5 alone, so a fixture entry with one mistyped hash was left out
of the pack RomM would accept it from. The rule is declared in romm.yml
and read by verify, the builder and the manifest.
Region filtering ranked every declared file, held or not, so a request
answered only by a missing file dropped the held fallback and emptied
the slot. Only held files now decide what gives way; the missing better
match stays reported.
Resolving the profiles a run names, which refuses an alias or a launcher
because neither has requirements of its own, and the structural checks
on an archive that hold whatever it contains: a duplicate entry, an
absolute path, a traversal, a zero-byte member. Complexity 58 to 50 and
63 to 51.
Extracting the second surfaced a Counter it had been reading from the
enclosing module, which pyflakes caught before the tests did.
generate_pack.py held six responsibilities in 4744 lines. Five move out
in dependency order, so nothing above reaches back down: destinations,
core extras, resolution with its storage tiers, the notes shipped inside
a pack, and the pack verifier. generate_pack.py keeps the build and the
command line, and re-exports the rest.
Two things the move surfaced. The offline switch was a module global the
command line assigned, which a re-export would have copied and frozen at
False; it is set through a call now and not re-exported. And a facade
placed after the entry point binds too late: importing the module worked,
running it did not, so the manifest run died on a name the tests never
exercised because tests import.
Verified against the previous revision on frozen inputs: every generated
artefact is identical, save the catalogue that embeds hashes of files
carrying a build timestamp.
