The dry run, the Batocera walkthrough and the narrowing line of
wiki/installer.md were typed by hand and went stale with each list.
generate_installer_doc.py now runs install.py against the committed
lists in a sandbox, dated by each list, and the pipeline runs it at
step 7.
Commands break between shell words with a continuation the shell reads,
an option kept with its value. The 40x12 setup and plan keep a note or a
folder whole. Line mode counts files in place and missing, and names the
BIOS folder, as the screen does. The systems question fits its terminal.
An ArkOS or AmberELEC games part is named on the first screen and comes
first at the folder question. Packs that lack files are said so before
any plan. The served bootstrap gives advice that fits it, and the site
build refuses a copy whose pin is not its installer.
The site serves install.sh at /retrobios/i and install.ps1 at
/retrobios/i.ps1. generate_site.py writes both copies with the
installer address set to install.py at the commit the site is built
from (GITHUB_SHA in CI, HEAD locally), so the pinned SHA-256 and the
downloaded installer always come from one commit, including while a
deploy is still running.
Every command a user copies names the short address. The raw form
stays on the installer page as the fallback. Deploy Site now runs on
changes to install.sh and install.ps1. The install box weight keeps
the address length its ratio was fitted on, so no console page moves.
code_audit_19 and tui_audit_12. A tap ticks a box and opens a choice on a
second tap of the row the screen saw tapped. One list drives the plan's game
data row, save line and data files. The version note, --offline in shown
commands, exit 2 for a chosen quit, legacy mouse reports read from bytes,
colour roles that read their words, the setup list's device column, the
copy browser, a drive two systems fit, WSL's Windows folder, and line mode
wording.
--offline given with the variable set is named as the option, and the
runs the screen starts get it only when the user gave it. The first
install page stays under its 400 words, the 3.8 runs skip only the
pack test that needs generate_pack.
The installer knew BIOS files from game data and no count showed it.
The plan, the line menu and the result count them apart for a list that
marks game data, the plan gets a game data row and the menu a g key,
each toggling it in one press, and one sentence says what game data is.
The TERM probe test answers the setup question, first-install keeps
its button name on one line and under 400 words, and --page of the
installer doc script is named on the page.
Answers code_audit_16 and tui_audit_9: share drives give their bios
folder, card markers stop at mount points, a model finds its family,
the folder question quits on q, pages move by the rows drawn, and a
folder the installer proposed is created without the guard.
First install says where a device name is typed. The key table gives each
pad route its buttons, the --plain claims match the parity work, and the
error event, exit code and --dest rows name the card refusals.
installer.md: one card reading, AmberELEC and EmuELEC cards, device names in the setup list and the line menu, the copy browser on the first mounted card, offline endings, the refused --dest in the exit table. first-install.md: a handheld found by its name, Finished with files missing.
The installer page says what a card system named on a computer does
(Where is the SD card?, Look again, the Card root prompt), that Enter on
None unticks every system and Back keeps the ticks, and that Space
continues outside a list of ticks. KNULLI and ROCKNIX no longer have a
computer default. The first-install page names the card screen.
The exit status names 129 for a closed window and the --offline
refusals of --target and --list-targets, and the events say a crash
leaves no end line. RETROBIOS_PAD and RETROBIOS_IDLE_EXIT join the
environment table, muxterm's missing paging and the save directory
found under --dest are said, and the options at a glance list
--declared-only and --offline. The first install page no longer
promises a controller on a computer, and gives the RetroPie command
for Windows too.
The one-liner opens the full screen, and the page walked through the
line questions. It now shows the first screen, the keys and the
controller, Install, the copy from an old card and the result titles.
Troubleshooting no longer asks to move a nested bios folder by hand.
FAQ entry, the release_pack field and how to revisit it from download
counts, the get/ pages, and RetroPie 4.8 now installs from a computer with
the Pi's network folder as --dest. The start pages are back under their
word ceilings.
The step for another folder now gives the command with --dest for each
system, the PowerShell one in its script block form. The check line that
means all good is shown whole, since an empty folder also reads 0 hash
mismatches. The port archive is said to come with releases cut after the
port, which v2026.10.10, the latest, predates.
The safety list names the save folder, every install command shows its Windows form, first install reads the last line of a run, the FAQ answers zip or unzip and the arcade version rule, and each page keeps one name.
generate_site.py writes the Starlight project in website/ and nothing
else: mkdocs.yml, the MkDocs hooks, theme overrides and stylesheet go,
and the wiki is written in Starlight's syntax. Both workflows set up
Node with the official actions/setup-node pinned by commit, run npm ci
from the committed lockfile, build with the strict link validator and
check the result with validate_site.py.
The search weighs a page by what it answers: Start here pages first,
a system page's cards and file names before a guide citing them, deep
guides, launchers, aliases and frozen copies after. Status badges,
hash blocks and the export change lists leave the index. The ranking
sits at the centre of a range where the 13 queries of search_gate.py
all answer, in the search box itself.
839 pages, every URL and 45,611 ids match the MkDocs build. The tests
read the Starlight content and syntax.
Platform guides, device groups, terminal tabs, pack README manuals and
logo credits move from Python tables to platforms/_guides.yml, checked
against the registry on load. A folder row without a path is the
registry's extract_to, written once.
Wiki pages place themselves in the navigation with order and nav_title
in their front matter. Generated docs/ and mkdocs.yml are unchanged.
The Start here pages ran 460 to 2,100 words and the first command of
Get your files sat 254 words down. Each page now opens on its action,
with short sentences and one fact per block. The facts a newcomer does
not act on moved one level down: the legal analysis to wiki/legal.md,
the project terms to wiki/reference-terms.md, the annotated run and the
installer failures to the installer page, collection figures to a new
Explore index.
tests/test_site_copy.py holds the budgets on the generated pages, and
the testing guide states them with their reasons.
Four statements the repository contradicts are rewritten: prboom.wad
is compiled into PrBoom (emulators/prboom.yml), Batocera reports a
mismatch as UNTESTED (batocera-systems checkBios), 13 hle_fallback
entries are required, and the gaps headline splits missing firmware
from game data and unread entries.
A file in place whose contents differ (another revision, a personal
dump) was overwritten and lost. It is now moved to
retrobios-backup/<date-time>/ beside the folder written to, under the
same path, before the verified copy replaces it. Beside, not inside:
DuckStation, SwanStation and Rustation read every file of the BIOS
folder and BizHawk walks its firmware folder recursively.
Identical files are never kept. --dry-run counts what would be kept,
the summary and the summary event name the folder, files and bytes,
and --restore FOLDER puts the files back. Data trees and standalone
copies keep their replaced files the same way.
Five tabs from Start here to Contribute, a level on every page, a device picker on Get your files that lists every registered platform, and platform pages that open on where the files go, the command, the pack and how to check. FAQ and troubleshooting keep the questions asked before installing, the technical ones move to their own page, and getting started points to the pages that took its content.
The Batocera example is dated and carries the Not installable line and the closing list of files the collection does not hold, which every Batocera run prints. Disk sizes are no longer hand-kept: the run prints its size. The no-platform case describes the menu install.sh makes possible by handing over the terminal.
Without Python the bootstrap told every system to run sudo apt install python3. It now reads Termux, macOS and /etc/os-release to name pkg, xcode-select, apt, dnf, pacman, zypper or apk, and in Termux offers to run pkg install python, which needs no root.
The installer output example showed 5865 files and no Not installable
line, while the RetroArch manifest gives 8069 and omits 11. Exit code 2
also comes from every option argparse refuses. RETROBIOS_REF holds a
file list only until the next release deletes its tag, and large files
always come from large-files. The release commit now carries the
manifests the pipeline regenerates. A RetroPie 4.8 image ships Python
3.7.3, below the bootstrap's floor, and the pages say what to use.
Profiles, the wiki, comments, docstrings, command output and schema descriptions carried em-dashes, clause-joining semicolons, unicode arrows, box-drawing banners and check-mark glyphs. Each sentence was rewritten rather than having its character swapped. Hashes, paths, source_ref values and every cited file:line are unchanged, which a comparison of each parsed profile against the previous revision confirms.
validate_pr comments now say PASS and FAIL in words, and source_ref values in a profile's structured blocks render as code. test_prose_style fails if any of these comes back, in tracked files or in the generated site.
