The scraper walks each package's functions the way RetroPie runs them in one shell (assignments, arrays, for loops, brace expansion, $md_id, calls into other packages) and records every link, copy, move and setting that names $biosdir, the addEmulator flags (sdltrs -romfile3), the BIOS read outside $biosdir (basilisk --rom, gngeopi -B) and the launch scripts that exit without their file (fs-uae kick13.rom, reicast dc_boot.bin).
Each package also gets a package record with its rp_module_repo and the systems it registers, which maps a package to the build it compiles. The schema gains package, repo, systems and the moves and package kinds. platforms/retropie.yml is regenerated at 46128cd2: only the launchers section is new.
The scraper now records, from configgen at the pinned tag, the names each Recalbox launcher tries and where it hands them: the Hatari TOS cascades (standalone, hatari and hatarib cores), GSplus, Amiberry kickstarts, the PCSX2 region choice, the Dolphin IPL presence test, xemu, the mupen64plus 64DD IPL, the Mini vMac boot disk and the o2em_bios option. The system_directory libretroRetroarch gives each core, and the per-system overrides after it, are passes_path records.
The scraper reads the start scripts and the configs each package installs at the tag the BIOS list is pinned to: configs that name a BIOS path, the yabasanshiro search, directories handed to DuckStation and the PCSX2 builds, and the ln -s commands that put bios/ where an emulator reads. A package that ships one config per device gets a device field only where the values differ, as melonDS does on AMD64.
The scraper parses the configgen generators with ast at the pinned tag: DuckStation and its legacy build, Hatari, xemu, melonDS, mupen64plus 64DD, x16emu, GSplus, and the o2em and neocd core options. An extractor that no longer recognises its code raises instead of writing an empty list.
The page named the entries a change touched and never the values, so
a maintainer could not check a correction. The report now carries
changes, one object per change with kind, entry, field, old and new,
read from the platform entry and from the value the render writes
(written() per format: record value for System.dat and RomM, one md5
where a single one is checked). The existing label lists are derived
from it. The page writes "md5 X becomes Y" and names each required
flag with its new value. A test parses the original and updated
System.dat and es_bios.xml and checks the list equals the diff.
The export keeps every entry a platform declares. An entry the truth
does not pair was still read in 1189 of 2776 cases (alias, hash, a
type: directory tree, a core outside the resolved set), so absence of
a pairing proves nothing. Each report now lists, under
removal_candidates, the unpaired entries that no profile of the cores
the platform runs answers by name, path tail, hash, directory or data
directory, with the cores examined and a reason. A core the platform
names without a profile, or a ROM set under a core that opens sets by
name, leaves the verdict undetermined. The exports page states the
count and lists the entries per platform.
The resolver reads built_by as the platforms on which a core name means this build. Its definition said platforms that compile a libretro build, which excludes a standalone build a platform installs from the project's release. The field now says what it decides: platforms that ship this build under its core name, compiled or installed from the release.
DuckStation identifies its BIOS by MD5 in a folder it scans
(bios.cpp:208), so its entries' names are labels. The export wrote them
into Batocera's and ROCKNIX's lists as files to hold: a user with only
scph5501.bin read 104 missing BIOS where DuckStation boots. Labels also
lent their md5 to a name another core opens, and paired by name they
replaced System.dat's scph5000.bin hashes.
found_by: name | content, on a profile or a file and keyed by build like
load_from. The truth records which cores open each name (_named_by). A
label pairs with a platform entry by hash only, is never added, merges
with an opened name only on a shared hash, and is counted in the export
report rather than listed as missing.
A machine that instantiates a device loads the device's ROMs from <shortname>.zip (src/emu/device.cpp:140-152), and a missing required ROM stops that machine (romload.cpp:529-570, 667-671). The BIOS root scan never sees these sets. mame_hash_scraper --devices --listxml reads them from the -listxml of the release mame.yml pins, refuses another release, and cites each set at the ROM_START block holding its ROMs. The BIOS root merge also wrote refs without the upstream prefix and would have rewritten all 171 of them in mame.yml.
Profile notes and wiki pages called .info entries phantom or incorrect, and labelled an upstream list a known defect. They now state what each file declares and what the code reads. The wiki claimed Batocera prefix-matches truncated md5s; its script compares the full string (batocera-systems:1088), which the page now says. The gaps column reads "Not read by profiles" and notes that a profile may be incomplete.
The page called the original "their file" and listed hashes "corrected" and additions "left out", a verdict on work the page only proposes to extend. It now says what each updated file changes in neutral terms built from the report's numbers, gives the reason a file is not added, credits the effort a list takes to keep current, and invites an issue when a change does not fit a platform. A test keeps the judging words off the page.
A file that arrives with the emulator is already on the user's machine
and the packs leave it out. 4558 collected copies (1.4 GB) were reached
only by such entries, with no platform, other profile entry or install
manifest needing them. They are removed, and two release-asset copies
leave the ignore list. bundled_only.py now lists every copy of a listed
file, since the database keeps one path per content, and pipeline step
4d fails while one remains.
export_native now writes into exports/ by default, and beside each
platform's corrected file a report naming every change, where the run
printed five per kind. A new site page lists each platform with its
original file, a download of the corrected one and every corrected,
filled or withheld value. Each platform page links to its row.
Dropping the double-dash asides left 72 comments and docstrings with
half a dash glued to the next word ("shape -a size or a size range -is
all"). They now read as a colon, a comma or parentheses, and a prose
style test names any that comes back.
install.py --emulator NAME keeps what the named emulators read on the detected platform: their own files and the platform's files of the systems they run, as a pack built for them carries, without the systems no core is mapped to. Each emulator page now gives that command for Linux, macOS and Windows, beside the per-file links.
BizHawk's NDS firmware slot accepts six dumps, two of which the collection holds, and the profile named one. Kega Fusion's US Mega CD BIOS covers the Americas. Sonic 3 A.I.R. data is installed by Batocera in unpacked form. izApple2 downloads its ProDOS images when a card is added, which is no install. The Lakka list now equals a case-keeping RetroArch install less what Lakka's packages install, and the profile hash contradiction count leaves out entries no pack ships. The pipeline table names step 8b.
A file the emulator installs itself is left out of the packs, per build and per platform. The profiling guide documents bundled, installed_on and not_bundled_on, the FAQ says why a file the emulator reads may be missing from a pack, and an emulator page names the build that installs it and the platforms whose package differs.
The gaps page and the Advanced usage, Verification modes, Release process and Testing guide pages titled in Title Case beside sentence-case pages. A test now reads every wiki heading.
100 emulator names the two platforms run had no profile, so their packs carried nothing for them. Each was read from the platform's own launcher or scriptmodule: the same program as an existing profile takes the name in cores:, a different build gets its own profile read from that version, a launcher or self-contained game goes to remove_cores, and the rest are new profiles written from their source or shipped binary. The files they need that the collection lacked are collected from the upstream distributions. Bungie and splitwolf trees are read by path and stay out of dedup.
Twenty-one topics were bold lines ending in a colon: MkDocs gave them no anchor to link from an issue and left them out of the page contents. They are headings now, and the prose test refuses the form.
A file installed with its emulator is already on the user's machine and the packs leave it out. bundled_only.py lists the collected copies nothing else needs: no platform declares them, no entry of any build needs them, no install manifest ships them.
A profile that reads a libretro core and the original emulator cited both trees alike, and readers could not tell whether the core or the emulator asked for a file. A cited path now opens with source or upstream, the repository its lines are in. Emulator code a port carries is attributed upstream when the original holds the same value on the cited line.
profile_sync --attribute-refs writes the words from where the lines are found and follows a word already written. The site links each citation to that repository's pin, labels it libretro core or upstream emulator, and says on each file card whose code asks for it. A recale keeps the word, and mame_ref_audit reads the tree it names.
The release built and checked the RetroPie pack with two commands after the pipeline, which left it out of the verify and pack consistency check. pipeline.py --include-archived builds and checks it with the rest.
The pack table, its parts sentence and the install commands were typed by hand from figures release.json already held. A copied cell or an old collection total at the top is how issue 81 happened. release_notes.py renders them and appends the hand-written account of what changed.
PR validation runs validate_schemas.py --source-only and the pipeline did not, so a profile with an unquoted numeric core name passed every step and failed CI on push. It is step 0 now, skipped where jsonschema is not installed.
Paid Android emulators announce versions that circulate only rebuilt or re-signed. The profile stays on the newest unmodified build, and version_source.no_genuine_copy names the release searched for, so check_freshness stops flagging it until the page announces a later one.
--check counted the required files the list leaves out and named none, then said all files were up to date. A Recalbox user asking why Caesar III would not start learned nothing, though the list names c3.555. The count line no longer calls a file not found unsafe.
The guides said files over 50 MB become release assets and that RPG Maker and ScummVM were the trees kept out of dedup. .gitignore decides the first, four committed files are over 50 MB, and NODEDUP_DIRS holds eleven trees.
About forty profiles describe projects published outside any forge (Altirra, ePSXe, DraStic, mednafen, xroar). profile_sync skipped them as an unsupported host and check_freshness reported the same UNKNOWN line every run, so a new release adding a firmware went unseen. A profile can now name the page announcing its releases and a pattern for the version: --check-version reads it, and check_freshness --profiles calls the profile stale when the page announces another version than core_version.
Lakka's image writes the board in /etc/os-release: LIBREELEC_DEVICE when built for a device, LIBREELEC_PROJECT otherwise, the very names of our Lakka targets. The installer read the board on Batocera, Recalbox and ROCKNIX only, so a Lakka RPi4 installed 5.7 GB of every board's files where its own needs 4.0.
CONTRIBUTING and the testing guide installed pyyaml and jsonschema only, while the CI test job also installs markdown. On a contributor's machine the wiki heading test skipped and the run read OK. Both name it now, and a test compares them to the packages the tests import.
Profiles, the wiki, comments, docstrings, command output and schema descriptions carried em-dashes, clause-joining semicolons, unicode arrows, box-drawing banners and check-mark glyphs. Each sentence was rewritten rather than having its character swapped. Hashes, paths, source_ref values and every cited file:line are unchanged, which a comparison of each parsed profile against the previous revision confirms.
validate_pr comments now say PASS and FAIL in words, and source_ref values in a profile's structured blocks render as code. test_prose_style fails if any of these comes back, in tracked files or in the generated site.
No gradient banner, no coloured stripes or dots beside cards, no lifting cards, pill badges or small-caps headers. File blocks are separated by a rule, tables keep the theme's own size, and headings no longer repeat the site name the header bar already shows. Classes nothing emits were removed.
Windows rules ran under WSL with C:\ paths read as relative and no Windows variables, so nothing was found and a forced RetroBat install went to ~/bios inside the distribution.
BizHawk reads the Firmware folder next to EmuHawk wherever the archive was extracted. The installer looked in ~/.config/BizHawk/Firmware, which no build reads, and wrote there when nothing was found.
