The acquisition report never read a profile, so XM7's required DICROM.ROM
sat among 2 287 targets at the rank of dumps no core reads. A missing
entry that a profile reads and the collection lacks is now listed first
with the profile, matched by hash or, for a hashless entry with a size,
by name and size. 29 entries on the current snapshots.
A crc32 and a size can be met by crafted bytes, so a remote download
matched on them could land in bios/. verify_content now requires every
sha256, sha1 and md5 the entry declares to match, and an entry declaring
none is reported as not verifiable from the network and nothing is
written. crc32 and size still find a file the database already holds.
verify_content read sha1 then md5 only, so an entry pinned by sha256 or
crc32 could be searched and never accepted, and one without any hash was
announced as searched. The strongest declared hash now decides, crc32
counts with its size, the database lookup reads sha256 and crc32, and an
entry with nothing to prove a download by is reported, not searched.
check_freshness exited 0 when no upstream answered. An unknown row now
holds the exit code, and a profile skipped by nature is reported skipped
so it does not hold it forever. --only names the valid areas, a stale
native row names its platform, and the summary names refresh_stale.py.
refresh_stale ran a parent's rescrape and its children's truth and
export jobs side by side, so a child read the parent mid-rewrite. A job
now starts once the rescrapes of its ancestors have ended, and a child
no row names gets its export rewritten after them. A rescrape chain ends
on verify.py --platform, whose summary closes the report.
The FBNeo import recorded the listing's blob sha for bytes fetched from a
branch URL a CDN caches, and --fetch <revision> still read the tip. The
revision is now resolved to a commit, listed and downloaded there, each
DAT is held against its blob sha, and a DAT read at a named revision is
labelled with it without replacing the tip's recorded blobs.
The pipeline locked only --output-dir while it also writes database.json,
install/, README.md and docs/. A run on a scratch output directory could
start beside the run on dist/ and rewrite them. Every run now holds the
repository's .lock first.
release_record rebuilt nothing from the name builder: a substring match
took RetroArch_v1.22.2_AndroidArm64V8A_BIOS_Pack.zip for the RetroArch
pack. The record now refuses any pack that is not a registered platform's
full pack and stores the platforms each pack serves, which the readers
use instead of the pack name.
profile_sync gains --changed (added or edited profiles, uncommitted
ones included) and --added, both against the merge base of --base
(origin/main by default). CONTRIBUTING runs --changed --strict instead
of one --emulator call per new profile, and the CI job runs --added
in place of its own diff loop.
RomM 5.4 reads each platform's firmware where filesystem.structure.firmware
in config.yml says, bios/{platform} by default, and suggests {platform}/bios
for a {platform}/roms library (rommapp/romm 5.4.0,
backend/config/config_manager.py:58,101-109,205-225,564-568,1105-1124).
The installer only wrote bios/<platform>/. It now reads the template from
config.yml beside the library, takes --romm-firmware when that file is
elsewhere, refuses a platform-first library with no template, and detects
RomM by /romm/config/config.yml too.
The search splits a page at its headings. Emulator cards were titled in
bold and platform systems folded into blocks under one heading, so a
pasted hash opened the top of a page or the systems overview of a
100-block platform page. Each file card is now a level 4 heading kept
out of the table of contents, and each platform system a heading.
Card lines that list other pages (platforms, packs, source citations,
collection paths) leave the search index: 24.7 MB down to 18.1 MB, the
names, hashes and notes still searchable.
No Batocera build writes /etc/batocera-version: batocera-system.mk:21-22
(batocera.linux 38845725, unchanged since batocera-30) writes
/usr/share/batocera/batocera.version. Knulli (knulli-linux 57afa662) adds
OS_NAME=knulli to os-release, writes /usr/share/knulli/knulli.version and
removes /usr/share/batocera, and no Knulli source writes /etc/knulli-release.
Neither was detected. A Knulli board is named and not narrowed by
Batocera's per-board lists, and an unlisted board is named.
muOS runs RetroArch on a config copied from its default, which reads
/run/muos/storage/bios, bound to MUOS/bios on the second card when that
card holds one, and loads cores from /opt/muos/share/core (MustardOS/internal
f41f4a89, script/control/retroarch.sh:8-20, script/device/bind.sh:116-150,
retroarch.default.cfg:2806,3151). The installer wrote to /mnt/mmc/MUOS/bios
and --installed-cores found no core. The config now decides both.
The 3.12 guard rested on generate_readme f-strings that have since been
rewritten. Every script compiles under CPython 3.9.25, 3.10 and 3.11, and
only generate_pack's parenthesized context managers fail under 3.8. Under
3.9 the offline pipeline (--skip-packs) completed with no change to the
committed artifacts, the 15 manifests matched 3.12 byte for byte, and the
RomM pack was identical. CI now compiles every script under a real 3.9.
functions/all.ps1:4-14 (emudeck-we 037460ef) reads the APPDATA
settings.ps1, else the one under the profile, and takes C:\Emulation when
neither names a folder. Only the first was read and a forced platform fell
back to %USERPROFILE%\Emulation\bios. A network install names its share
through $VolName (JSONtoPS1.ps1:166-172), and a UTF-16 settings file is
decoded.
RetroBat.exe writes its folder to HKCU\SOFTWARE\RetroBat
LatestKnownInstallPath on every start (retrobat-executable 702da66a,
Program.cs:57 and 99, RegistryTools.cs:15-50). Only C:\RetroBat and the
profile folder were looked at, so an install on D: was missed and a forced
--platform retrobat wrote into C:\RetroBat\bios. The value is read
through winreg, or reg.exe under WSL, before the fixed folders.
The recipe snapshot kept only the archives a profile or platform names,
so provenance_report --missing named no set for dumps a public romset
carries (fm7740sx holds the FM77AV40SX DICROM, EXTSUB and KANJI2 ROMs).
The importer now also keeps the sets holding a catalog entry the
collection lacks. Reimported from mame0289 and the cached FBNeo DATs:
MAME 1726 to 2148 recipes, FBNeo 104 to 111, none dropped.
The help said "Only regenerate DB and verify" while steps 1b, 4d, 7 and
8 still ran and rewrote derivable.json, README.md and docs/. It now names
the steps it skips and points to --skip-docs.
The triage, --changed-only and --strict counted refs only. Prose that
--realign-prose would move or refuse blocks every recale and bump, and
blastem read 0 to review. Each report now carries that reading. The
triage also gets a header, a closing count, and one sampling notice per
run instead of one per profile.
architecture.md drew path_suffix ahead of SHA1 and listed a core
resolution that missed the retroarch list entry and built_by. Both now
link to the one statement that matches common.py. The Recalbox table
read hashMatchMandatory into verify.py, which never reads it, and
md5_composite hashes member contents, not member MD5s
(Zip.cpp:71-96). The validation index is built from the platform's
resolved profiles only. The requirement table gains the fields that
make a platform YAML reversible, and pages that name a platform list
say what changes rather than judging it.
The installer output example showed 5865 files and no Not installable
line, while the RetroArch manifest gives 8069 and omits 11. Exit code 2
also comes from every option argparse refuses. RETROBIOS_REF holds a
file list only until the next release deletes its tag, and large files
always come from large-files. The release commit now carries the
manifests the pipeline regenerates. A RetroPie 4.8 image ships Python
3.7.3, below the bootstrap's floor, and the pages say what to use.
The test skeleton indexed verify_platform's dict result as a list and
stopped on KeyError: 0. The verification discipline and the profiling
guide hedged rules the project holds as firm. The profile field table
marked as required fields the schema does not require, and now names
the pin that profile_sync --strict needs.
An unknown --emulator name pointed at --list-cores and counted 441 names
while --list-cores prints 189: the buildbot names --emulator accepts
(mednafen_psx for beetle_psx) were listed nowhere. --list-emulators prints
each accepted name beside the emulator it stands for, and the hint names
it.
A value of another length was looked up as an MD5 and reported NOT FOUND,
a SHA-256 was dropped, and an input with no hash ended on "No valid
hashes found in input". Digests are now read by length (CRC32, MD5 and
its 29-digit Batocera form, SHA-1, SHA-256), SHA-256 is looked up in the
database, and any other value is refused with the formats accepted.
kronos tags the ST-V BIOS epr-19854.ic8 taiwan, mednafen_stv tags it
asia-ntsc, the SMPC area Mednafen names for Taiwan (ss.cpp:1119,
2363-2364). As siblings under asia they never matched, so a request in
one spelling dropped the file tagged in the other, and --region
taiwan,us dropped the Saturn sega_101.bin. AREA_TERRITORIES relates
each area to the territory it serves, china for asia-pal included, in
region.py and its installer copy.
Step 5 compared (ok, total) and the core file count. RetroArch, Lakka
and RetroPie read 526/526 on both sides while verify credited four paths
below SGB1.sfc and SGB2.sfc that the pack never writes: a declared file
blocks them as a directory. verify now places the platform files in the
builder's order with the same path rules, and a user_provided or
external declaration keeps its slot on both sides, so no core file takes
it in the report only.
verify --destinations writes the paths each pack holds by the report,
and step 5 compares them with the archive members (notes and data tree
members set aside). Every emulator profile, in each build it has, is
built in memory (PackRecord, nothing read or written) and compared with
verify --emulator path by path. Cost measured here: about 1 s per
platform archive and 11 s for the 930 emulator packs.
A [Parameter()] attribute made install.ps1 an advanced script: its common
parameters took -v (-Verbose), -vb, -d and -ea before install.py saw them,
and the scriptblock form printed PowerShell's own VERBOSE lines. The
wrapper now forwards $args as typed.
A link already at the destination was skipped without a word and counted
as "dir not found" while the folder existed, so the emulator kept the file
the link pointed at. The link now gives way to the file, written beside it
and renamed over the name, and a name leading out of the folder is a named
failure.
The coreinfo area compared .info names only: a firmwareN_path added to a
profiled core's .info came out OK. check_freshness now compares each
profiled .info's git blob with platforms/_core_info.json, recorded on
2026-10-21 from the current listing, and --record-coreinfo CORE records
one as reviewed.
mkdocs was installed by the deploy alone, after the merge, and wiki/
was not a validation path: a dead link or a stray heading failed the
deploy on main with nothing in front of it. The test job now runs the
deploy's site build, and every site input triggers validation.
The Required packs and manifests carried every data tree, the FreeIntv
overlays included. A data_directories entry now accepts required: false,
and the platform, emulator and manifest walks leave such a tree out under
--required-only. FreeIntv reads its overlays only with the multi-screen
option and draws a placeholder keypad without one (src/libretro.c:294-296,
350-369).
The cache was truncated and dumped in place. A concurrent build read
half a file, took it for empty, and an offline run then wrote {} over
every recorded icon. The file is now replaced through a scratch file,
merged with what another run recorded meanwhile, and left alone when
nothing new was learned.
--verify-packs after an --all-variants build rebuilt only the full pack's
name and opened it alone. The five narrowed packs of the same run passed
without a line. Each one is now named with the hash check the build ran
on its members.
Names are matched on letters and digits, so the site's display names
work, and a typo gets the closest names instead of a full list. Hints
and advice give back the command the user ran (curl or PowerShell form,
every flag kept), --dest alone follows detection and says whose list it
installs, Ctrl+C at a question exits 130, and --cores-dir names a core
folder. install.ps1 runs in its own scope so irm | iex leaves the
session alone, and an override that causes a fingerprint mismatch is
named. --check lists hash mismatches first, missing required files are
grouped by system, and --help ends with examples.
--emulator accepts a buildbot core name from a profile's cores:, and a
mistyped target gets the closest names instead of every target. diff_truth
shows destinations and reports unpaired entries as evidence, not removals.
The verify summary counts discrepancies, a shared destination names both
systems, a truth hash conflict names both cores, and pipeline steps carry
their place in the real run instead of N/8. Every GitHub API caller takes
the token from github_token(), which falls back to gh auth token.
Troubleshooting, the FAQ and the download page sent people who only ran
the installer to verify.py, which reads the repository, not their BIOS
folder. Download links now name the exact asset of the recorded release,
the --dest example names the BIOS folder on the card, the slice layout
left with the last release that used it, and the shown verify output is
what the tool prints.
A fork's GITHUB_TOKEN is read-only, so the comment never arrived and a
valid file turned red. The report now goes to the job summary for every
pull request, and the comment and labels run only where the token can
write. validate_pr points an oversized file to an issue instead of a
platform setting a contributor cannot use.
